Overview
“Mapping St James’s” 55 St James’s Street, Piccadilly, London. Interior lobby wall: 9 metres wide X 3 metres high.
Exterior doors and main entrance surround: 4.5 metres wide X 6.3 metres high.
Screen printed ceramic enamel glass, with bonded glass and acid etching.
Goals
The design concept is to celebrate the historic elements of the location of this famous building in central London. The light-box screen is the main entrance to a large office and residential development.
Process
The design draws on a variety of characters through history that lived in St James’s, from Kings and Queens to Lord Byron and Beau Brummell, Reference is also made to all the characters who gave there names to surrounding streets.
Additional Information
The artwork was originally intended to cover the corner plot of the outside of the building, however, with the use of a very slimline light box we created a large interior screen that brought light and space into what was quite a dark interior.
