  • Brief Description

Cosumnes Community Services District (“District”) is seeking sealed proposals from interested artists and artist teams with experience in the design and execution of public art at the new CORE Recreation Center (“CORE”) located at 5542 Bellaterra Drive, Elk Grove, CA 95757. The artwork opportunity is for a sculpture installation integrated into an outside plaza at the front of the building.

    Project Site

The CORE Recreation Center (“CORE”) is located within three acres at the northwest corner of the existing 30-acre Morse Community Park (5540 Bellaterra Drive, Elk Grove, CA 95757). CORE is currently under construction and anticipated to be completed in February 2025. When complete, CORE will consist of a 54,000 square-foot recreation and fitness center with amenities such as two full-size gymnasiums, fitness and aerobic rooms, and weight & cardio equipment. The site directly surrounding CORE will be landscaped and hardscaped with features such as a large lawn auditorium, shade structures, walkways, bioretention basins, and a boulder climbing area.

The location of the public art will be within these new site improvements. CORE has blocked out an area approximately 8’ by 8’ for this public art which will be surrounded by landscaping and walking paths (Exhibit A). The public art area will be rough graded to drain, but otherwise will be barren ground/soil for the artist to use as their blank canvas to improve upon.

For more information about the CORE project, visit the project’s website at: https://www.cosumnescsd.gov/892/CORE-Recreation-Center or https://corefit.org/.

    Project Goals

The goal of the CORE Public Art project is to create an art sculpture that will:

    • Be a welcoming and intriguing feature and create a sense of arrival as people approach CORE.
    • Consider the Cosumnes Community Services District’s mission and vision.
    • Consider the CORE project’s architectural tapestry (Exhibit B)
    • Be structurally stable and able to withstand the outside environment.

The District reserves the right to work with the successful candidate to revise the design for the project due to changes in costs, materials, or project funding. This project is desired to be completed no later than March 2025; however, completion is contingent on the construction timeline of the recreation center.
