Overview

D.C. law firm commissioned art for new office space. Upon visiting my studio in Lansing, Michigan, they selected a diverse range of works including the commission of a 7′ aluminum multi-colored sculpture, titled, Trinity; an existing massive painting titled, Heading Home; an aluminum mixed media painting, titled, Ambient Culture 3; and commissioned two 6′ giclee prints on canvas of a mirrored image from my Venice series of drawings, titled, Vicino al Teatro.

Goals

It was important to my client that the works connected in some way with their vision. They have three divisions within their firm, Education, Healthcare, and Indian Tribal Governments, so the idea of 3s was of great interest. Thus, the sculpture with three-sided panels. Works on canvas connected with ideas of working together, wayfinding, and communication. Vicino al Teatro (in the vicinity of the theater) was placed on route to the conference room (a.k.a., theater). Heading Home (Altantic salmon swimming back to spawning sites) was embraced by all divisions of the firm. Blues in this painting, as well as Ambient Culture and Trinity, worked beautifully within their color palette.

Process

Numerous options were presented to an art committee as ideas were fleshed out and the choices became clear to all involved. I worked with my seasoned fabricators in Michigan for newly commissioned works.
