Overview

Breathing new life into an old dead tree, Pneuma uses mist and light affixed to the limbs of tree to periodically erupt with a dynamic canopy. The tree itself has an almost spiritual presence at the site and for the attendees of Pitch music + Arts festival and has served as a meeting place for years.

Goals

Wayfinding - turning an iconic site object into something even more memorable. Easy to find at night and provide a welcome respite from the heat of the day.

Process

Due to the organic nature of the trees form, the process was more about designing an install strategy than a rigid schematic for the artwork. As the install period was short, this meant developing an array of options employable under difficult circumstances (working at height in windy conditions).
