Overview

Warsaw is a town of doctors who specialize in prosthetics. Mayor Joe Thallemer himself is an eye doctor. So, when I was explaining to him that the surface of the artwork would be refracting and reflecting Sun rays daily, he had no difficulty imagining the end result. Matter of fact the artwork was commissioned to me after Suzie Light (Warsaw Public Arts Commission – WPAC) saw another work of mine and reached out to my studio. Following some discussions, the board agreed to a new design I offered based on the site and my research on local culture. Primary idea of the torqued form came from prosthetics. Intentional display of the inner skeleton of the artwork with its crossing members is a reflection on the metal pins that are sometimes utilized to stabilize a broken bone. Glass panels that are parametrically calculated to generate the surface of the form, refer to colorful but fragile human body.

Goals

One of the goals of the project was to function as a placeholder and mark the new waterfront plaza in downtown Warsaw. With its everchanging colors and mirrored surfaces, we believe the project reached its goal of attracting attention to this area and mark the beginning of o a positive change.
