Overview
My home town, Yellow Springs, OH, decided to commission a sculpture from me, to be sited at the local public library. my/our intention was to represent the community, which was done via a bronze tree of books. The community has a long history of education, via Antioch College and other schools, Antioch Publishing, many writers, educators, artists, engineers, scientists, farmers and the like. The village has two nearby parks and is a real “tree” town with a tree committee. So the image came down to a tree created with real books, to represent the various aspects of the village.
Goals
the design of the garden next to the local public library was intended to highlight the commissioned sculpture, designed by Roger Beal with contribution by Reed Viemeister/Vie Design,
